A pinch of Amdavad

As a part of our basic print design course in the third semester, we had to come up with a street print. We were sent to Teen Darwaza, Ahmedabad to pick up features for our print, in other words, we were to build a street inspired jaal. Only five colours were used for this print.
One morning a bunch of kids were off to Teen Darwaza, just to click random photos of the street. They didn't know what we had to do other than click images and so we went on and on clicking. When they all returned to their class, their faculty told that from one of those images, which brings in the character of a street, they have to build a print. That sounded so much fun. They all sat and ran through all the images. What to select! Finally, one image and another and another, all combined and features from here and there, line drawing of a unit was set. With a million photostats, or "xerox" we took, a final unit was set with which different repeats and colour ways were explored. The colour ways were hand painted with poster colours for getting solid colours and was colour corrected later in Adobe Photoshop. It was indeed a long process.

Thanking Romanie Jaitley and Sucharita Beniwal for their guidance throughout the course.
